September 23, 2023 @ 12:00 pm 2:00 pm

Join the Crystal Falls Service Unit in exploring all that STEAM has to offer! Girls will be able to visit tables hosted by groups of current Scouts for hands-on activities in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. There will also be recruitment information available as well as a chance to sign-up your daughter to participate in Girl Scouts for the 2023-2024 program year!

Cost

  • Prospective Girl Scouts: No charge!
  • Current Girl Scouts: $5 per girl

Youth pre-registered will receive a STEAM Day patch.

Activities

Marshmallow Engineering (Hosted by Troop 22): Using mini marshmallows and toothpicks the girls will build 2D and 3D shapes. Girls can also build complex structures and towers!

Instant Snow (Hosted by Troop 654): Dreaming of cooler weather? Join Troop 654 for a science experiment to make instant snow that will cool you down.

Static Electricity (Hosted by Crystal Falls Service Unit): Excite some electrons and learn about static electricity with a balloon and some confetti!

Alka Seltzer Rockets (Hosted by Troop 78613): When Alka Seltzer tablets are dropped into water, a chemical reaction takes place, and bubbles of carbon dioxide gas are released. The gas builds up until there is enough pressure to blow the film canister lid off and propel it into the air.

Dry Ice Special Effects (Hosted by Crystal Falls Service Unit): Discover how you can make some “cool” (pun intended!) special effects for Halloween with dry ice! You’ll see it steam when you add water and then use soap to create smoke-filled bubbles.

Density Column Experiment (Hosted by Crystal Falls Service Unit): Stack different liquids with different densities in a tall Glass to visually demonstrate how densities allow objects to sink or float.

Catapults Away! (Hosted by Crystal Falls Service Unit): Explore how physics and engineering plays a role in the creation of a catapult. Build your own and launch balls at a target to test out your skills!

Does Fast Air Mean High Pressure? (Hosted by Crystal Falls Service Unit): Learn about the principles of flight and aerodynamics – make a prediction and see if you’re right!

Paper Snowflakes (Hosted by Troop 654): Cut and decorate a paper snowflake to prepare for cooler days!

Optical Illusion Spinners (Hosted by Troop 3456): Create a design on your spinner and observe how the motion changes your shape and color.

Watercolor Bats (Hosted by Troop 7890): Decorate your bat’s wings and see how the colors and design change when we add water.
